FunnyStorm Acquires Patent for Location-Based In-Game Flight System

Date: December 12, 2024

Body:
South Korean mobile game developer FunnyStorm has officially secured a patent for its In-Game Flight System and Method”, introducing a revolutionary approach to real-world-integrated flight mechanics in mobile gaming.

The patented system uses GPS data and real-time environmental APIs to reflect a player’s actual movement, surroundings, and weather into the in-game flight experience. Players can ride flying creatures like dragons, experiencing terrain-aware and weather-responsive aerial gameplay.

Unlike conventional location-based games, where characters simply pass through buildings, FunnyStorm’s technology detects and responds to real-world geospatial elementssuch as buildings, elevation, weather conditions, and even time of day. Different dragon types have varying flight altitudes, triggering unique events and interactions based on how high or low they fly.

For example:

  • Low-altitude flight may involve navigating around buildings or terrain.

  • High-altitude flight may unlock sky-based events or unique encounters.

  • Real-time data (like rain, fog, temperature, and wind) alters in-game visuals and scenarios.

The system bridges the real and virtual worlds, offering a truly immersive metaverse-like experience where reality-based variables shape the gameplay.

A company representative stated:

With this patent, we aim to let players fly through the real world and experience dynamic, altitude-based interactions that no traditional RPG can offer.”

Industry observers expect this patent to set a new standard for location-based mobile games, opening new market opportunities by merging physical mobility and fantasy.
