South Korean developer FunnyStorm has announced a patented server architecture designed to significantly reduce the server load in open-world mobile games, while still supporting large-scale real-time events — all powered by GPS-based environmental syncing.
Unlike traditional models where servers handle all game data, FunnyStorm’s system distributes responsibilities between the server and the client. Client devices generate virtual environments based on predefined matching tables, allowing servers to store and process only essential interaction-based data.
Key innovations:
Real-time GPS data integration for dynamic environments
Weather conditions and other real-world factors synced to in-game events
Up to 70% reduction in server resource usage
Supports stable large-scale global events with concurrent users
This patented system will be implemented in FunnyStorm’s upcoming mobile RPG, Dragon Raid, scheduled for global release in the second half of 2025.
The company stated that this architecture will allow it to scale global operations efficiently, differentiate itself technologically, and lead the next wave of location-based open-world gaming.
